Slovak (warm) Christmas

After few months, that I have been in Denmark, I finally spent few hours with my lovely gymnasium classmates from "Oktáva - GVBN - 1998 - 2006" We use to meet every Christmas time.

It was very nice time and my feeling wasn´t wierd at all! :)

Like we met last time a week ago, not a year :)

After that, Christmas Eve came with all traditional staff connected with this celebration.

I spent it with my family (parents, 2 brothers and grandmum) in Pravenec.

In my family, we begin this celebration just with special kind of christmas waffle - "oblátka" and a christmas cake called "vianočka" with butter and honey. All family beginn with a catholic christian pray, and also with a special garlic unction :) (the meaning is - to be healthy next year).


Next step is the soup. I haven´t eaten the proper Slovak soup for 4 months, so I was really happy to try again the traditional cabbage or mushroom soup ("kapustnica" or "hríbovica").

In my family, we use to eat "hríbovica" at Christmas Eve & "kapustnica" at New Year´s Eve.
We continue with potato salad and a fish. It depends on a concrete Slovak family, what kind of fish they prepare. Very famous is a carp.
Then we usually eat something sweet - my mother prepares "opekance" with caramel cream.

I haven´t took photo of this, because everybody was running to see the christmas tree, where the presents were lying :)

25th of December we spent with my grandmum in her place in Prievidza after visiting a church :)
On 26th of December, the plan was to spend the time with my best friend in Bojnice, but she got sick :(

I regret I forgot my camera, but this experience with it´s sound was just unique!
